Habitat: The African Bush Elephant lives in the grassland/ savanna ecosystem
Did you know? The African Bush Elephant is the largest land mammal in the entire world
Threats: Poaching is the biggest threat for these big mammals. (8% of the population is poached each year) These elephants also have a slow reproduction rate, which means that they recover from killings very slowly, so their population is slowly diminishing. Lastly, African Bush Elephants are losing their habitats due to humans and conflict with other animals' communities.
Food: Elephants are humongous creatures, and they eat a ton. To be exact, African Bush Elephants eat up to 300 pounds of roots, grasses, fruit and bark every day.
Diseases: The diseases that these elephants get are mostly mosquito-borne diseases such as Ross River fever, Dengue Fever, Malaria and Japanese Encephalitis.
Human Impact: Humans are the main reason for the innocent African Bush Elephant's suffering. They suffer from poaching and the negative affects in their environment. Humans are way overpopulated, and we create pollution that is destroying the world and the habitats of animals all around us. The pollution that we create goes into the air, which pollutes the water that the elephants drink from and the plants that they eat. We are also slowly changing their climate, which really messes with their system.
